AI in Education: Central Tensions — MPCR Round Table Debate

The MPCR Labs Round Table Series presents AI in Education: Central Tensions — a guided round table debate exploring the unresolved tensions at the intersection of artificial intelligence and education.

Event Details:

  • Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2026
  • Time: 5:15 PM Reception 6:00 PM Kickoff
  • Location: The Gruber Sandbox, FAU Boca Raton Campus

Central Tensions:

  • Cognitive offloading vs. deep learning
  • Personalization vs. belonging
  • Assistance vs. authorship
  • Innovation vs. governance

Artificial intelligence is rapidly entering classrooms, institutions, and policy frameworks — but not without unresolved tensions. This guided round table session brings together educators, policy-makers, and researchers in AI, education, and learning sciences for a structured, evidence-based debate on where AI is supporting learning — and where it may be quietly undermining it.

Rather than aiming for consensus, the session is designed to surface competing perspectives, tradeoffs, and open questions.
